New Jersey’s treasured 4-H Camp program collaborates every summer with Rutgers Gardens to offer an exciting day camp experience. The program combines the social and emotional learning of 4-H Camp’s friendly, communal, tech-free experience with the beautiful environment and educational opportunities of Rutgers Gardens.

Follow the 4-H Camp and Rutgers Gardens Instagram accounts as well as the 4-H the camp blogs for updates and events, and to learn when camp spots open up for the 2025 season. For more information, please visit the 4-H Camp website or reach out to Day Camp Director Shanna Gryder at (973) 903-3253 or shanna.gryder@rutgers.edu.

4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens offers four sessions each July for youth ages 6 to 14. Campers bond with their “cabins” throughout the week as they enjoy a unique mixture of hands-on outdoor education and carefree games played outside. You can enjoy a snapshot of what a day at 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens looks like in this video.

Days will be spent:

  • Learning in the gardens
  • Hiking Helyar Woods
  • Getting creative in the Bamboo Forest
  • Studying butterflies, birds, bats, and bees
  • Attending morning and afternoon All-Camp communal meetings
  • Engaging in camper-initiated activities during free time
  • Building a community based on mutual respect, curiosity, kindness, and treating each other well
  • Enjoying tech-free, outdoor summer experiences with new friends

Campers will visit the Rutgers Gardens Student Farm.
