At the Spring flower fair we have a fantastic selection of accent plants, and frankly I feel they are under acknowledged. An accent plant is grown for its foliage and form not necessarily for its flowers. Case in point, people naturally gravitate toward flowers. However, if you fill a container with just flowers there is no BACKBONE in the container for them to pop. Also flowering plants need time between flowering and flowers then fade; rescue remedy… mix it up with accent plants!
We have all shapes colors, light conditions. The accent plant can hold their own in a container or be grown with flowering plants. They can also go in the ground. Some of the selections include Helichrysum: ‘Silver Mist’. ‘Sliver Spike’,( I love the Silver plants) Limelight, ‘White Licorice’,’Petite’, Coleus, (WOW do we have COLEUS!!)
Honestly, I feel you could fill all your pots with coleus, and never be bored. Coleus in every shape and color you could imagine. Plectranthus: ‘Silver Foil’, ‘Cervesa N’ Lime’, ‘Troys Gold’, Marginata, etc. Great plants for tactile sensation and most have a fragrance to boot (in the mint family)
…and of course we have Ipomea (Sweet Potato Vine), Vinca Vine Wojo Gem, Dracena Spikes in addition to many other great accent plants.
So this year “mix it up” in your containers!
