You are required to purchase a photo permit in advance. Since we are largely self-supporting, we request $100.00 for a one-hour block of time of the gardens. Due to our popularity as a wedding ceremony and photo shoot location we suggest that you reserve your time well in advance. Wedding parties using the Gardens without a permit will be fined $125.00 (payable immediately by cash or credit card). We will begin taking reservations for 2012 wedding photos beginning on January 2, 2012. Please call the Gardens office at 732-932-8451.

Rules and Restrictions:

  • You MUST have a copy of your permit with you at all times. Gardens employees will check to be sure that everyone has registered.
  • Please be aware that although the Gardens staggers photo permit times you may not be the only party on the grounds taking photos.
  • Your permit is only good for the times noted. In the event that you are approached by a Gardens employee you must have the permit available. Should you be on the grounds outside of the specific times you will be asked to leave the grounds.
  • Wedding parties may be dropped off near the Donald B. Lacey Display Garden.  Limousines and all other vehicles must park in the Holly House parking lot.  LIMOUSINES ARE PROHIBITED FROM PARKING ALONG ROADWAY.   
  • Alcohol is prohibited in Rutgers Gardens.
  • No vehicles may be parked on any lawns.
  • The Log Cabin/Pavilion is only available for photographs to those who are renting that facility only.
  • Walking through garden beds is prohibited.
  • There are no public restrooms in Rutgers Gardens.
  • Photo permits are non refundable, but may be rescheduled do to inclement weather. You Must call before your scheduled time if you would like to reschedule.

For those wishing to have wedding ceremonies in the Gardens, they are available ONLY with the rental of the log cabin. Ceremony permits allow for the Roy DeBoer Evergreen Garden or the Sun and Shade Garden to be used for up to 2 hours.
