Everyone is welcome to take photographs and videos of the wonderful landscape at Rutgers Gardens. We encourage visitors to take casual photographs for their own personal use; however, if you are coming to the gardens for the sole purpose of taking posed photos of people, or a video then a photo permit is required. The cost of a photo permit is $125 for 1.5 hrs (see information below for large groups such as prom pictures) and must be scheduled in advance. The fee helps Rutgers Gardens to maintain the grounds to a level suitable for backdrops. Due to our popularity as a photo/video shoot location, we suggest that you reserve your time well in advance.
The Photography Guidelines are outlined below. A permit is necessary for those who wish to use the Gardens setting as the background for posed photography. This would include wedding, family, engagement, graduation, prom, senior photos, or the like. Standard permit duration is 1.5 hours. The photographer doesn't need to be a professional.
For larger groups, such as prom photos, where more than 25 people (including parents) will be on the grounds, the permit fee is $350. Groups without a permit will be charged $450.00. Please understand that these fees help to repair the wear and tear on the Gardens that large groups may cause.
Photographers using the Gardens without a permit will be fined $150.00 (payable immediately by cash or credit card). We will begin taking reservations for 2016 photo sessions beginning on January 2, 2016. Please

For those wishing to have wedding ceremonies in the Gardens, they are available ONLY with the rental of the log cabin. Ceremony permits allow for the Roy DeBoer Evergreen Garden or the Sun and Shade Garden to be used for up to 2 hours.
