Discover New Jersey's Secret Garden

Rutgers Gardens offers a variety of programs for school age children. Our programs are designed for children to explore and discover the Garden environment. We offer children's programs, afterschool/camp programs and guided and self-guided tours.

Preparing for Your Visit

April through September: 8:30 am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

October through March: 8:30 am to 5:00 p.m. 7 days a week.

Restrooms:

There are no public restrooms at the Gardens. All school/camp groups are required to pre register before your visit. As long as we know that you will be here we can provide restroom facilities.

Traveling with lunches:

The Gardens has limited facilities for school/camp groups with a designated outdoor picnic lunch area located at the Alumni Pavilion. It must be reserved ahead of time. The lunch area is open seasonally (April through October) during the year, Monday-Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm. All groups must be accompanied by adult chaperones. If there is no availability at the Pavilion, groups may picnic in the Roy DeBoer Evergreen Garden. Please remember that you must carry out everything you bring in.

Clothing:

Children and adult leaders should wear clothing and footwear appropriate for an active, outdoor walk and suitable for changes in weather.

First Aid Kits:

Please keep in mind that there are potential allergens in the Gardens such as bees and pollen. Come prepared with a first aid kit.
