Central Park Summer Internship

 

For the summer of 2014, students will have the option of participating in a 4 day/week internship with the Central Park Conservancy. This program provides a summer internship for up to 10 Rutgers Students. The Internship provides students with the opportunity to work side-by-side with Conservancy staff, building important life and career skills, better understanding the role they have in protecting living landscapes, and learning more about the complexity of urban park management in a park that receives over 40 million visits a year.

This is a 10-week internship, June 2, 2014 – August 7, 2014. Interns work Monday – Thursday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, at a rate of $14 an hour.
Transportation in and out of New York or Housing is the responsibility of the intern. For those seeking housing, assistance in finding accommodations is provided with a listing of potential student/intern housing options.

At Central Park there are a variety of positions available, including:

  • Horticulture Interns will assist Zone Gardeners to help maintain Central Park’s landscapes. Duties include litter removal, irrigation, weeding, planting, pruning, and mulching. 10 positions available.
  • Landscape Architecture and Construction Management Working with the staff of landscape architects at Central Park, this intern would be involved with oversight of the construction of various projects throughout the Park, the creation of as-built plans, the gathering of field data and other related jobs.  1 position available.
  • Tree Crew Tree Care Intern will assist the Tree Crew in performing park-wide maintenance of trees. Duties include tree species identification, hazard tree identification, disease and insect identification, pruning, tree removal techniques, and rigging. 1 position available.
  • Soil and Water Ecology Lab Intern will assist the Lab Supervisor and Technician in the field and laboratory collecting of samples, assisting with lab activities, data entry, and general lab maintenance. 1 position available.
