Join us for an outdoor beer garden as we celebrate and support the Rutgers Gardens Internship Program. This popular event brings together a number of local brews, light fare and music for a casual evening outdoors.
Since 1994, the Internship program has educated 205 students in the Gardens. The first year, 3 students worked at the Gardens and learned about garden maintenance. The program has grown substantially since those days, now averaging 14 students each year! In addition to the hands-on experience and training they receive in the important aspect of garden maintenance, we have been continually working to enhance the educational components, which included the addition of 3-credit courses in Public Garden Management and The Principles and Practices of Small-Scale Organic Farming, in collaboration with Office of Agriculture and Urban Programs.
Jeff Jabco, director of grounds at Swarthmore College and coordinator of horticulture at the Scott Arboretum will be honored as the 2017 recipient of the Hamilton Award. Jeff Jabco exemplifies Dr. Hamilton who is an unsung hero, a quiet leader, or patient mentor in the field of horticulture.
