The 2017 Gardens Party will be held on Wednesday, September 20
On Thursday, September 22, 2016 Rutgers Gardens celebrated its Centennial Anniversary at the Gardens Party. To celebrate this momentous occasion the inaugural Hamilton Award, named for Director Emeritus, Dr. Bruce Hamilton, was presented to Dr. Ann F. Rhoads, recently retired associate of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Rhoads exemplifies Dr. Hamilton who is an unsung hero, a quiet leader, or patient mentor in the field of horticulture. The award was presented to Dr. Rhoads by Dr. Ari Novy, Executive Director, and U.S. Botanic Garden. Dr. Ari Novy was a Graduate Research Fellow at Rutgers from 2006-2012, earning his PhD in plant biology in 2012.
The cocktail hour, at this year’s Gardens Party was made festive and fun as the Log Cabin and Pavilion were turned into a Wonderland. With the help of re-Think Theatrical, curious guests were encouraged to get up close and personal at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, play croquet with the King and Queen of hearts or solve riddles with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
