Garden Etiquette

Rutgers Gardens is a 180 acre botanic garden, consisting of designed gardens, plant collections and natural habitats. At Rutgers Gardens, we strive to provide a place of peace, beauty, and safety for the enjoyment by all of our visitors.
To help ensure the enjoyment and the safety of all our guests and to maintain the health and beauty of our collections, we have established a few guidelines.

  • Any ceremonies, celebrations or professional photo sessions must be scheduled through the Gardens.
  • The following are NOT permitted:
  • Ball playing, sledding, kite flying, drone flying.
  • Sunbathing. Shirts are required at all times.
  • Picking flowers or plants, climbing or damaging trees.
  • Hanging clothing or other items on trees and shrubs.
  • Stepping, walking, or playing in garden beds or water features.
  • No barbecues or open fires, etc.
  • Feeding wildlife.
  • Pets off leashes.
  • Soliciting or passing out information.
  • Commercial photography, unless pre-arranged with staff.
  • Loud music or activities.
  • Littering.
  • Park only in those areas designated for parking.
  • Groups are asked to pre-register, choosing either:
  • Adult tours:
  • Youth Group Exploration:
  • Self-guided Visits:

And finally…
Please help keep the Garden clean and beautiful. Place trash in trash receptacles and bottles and cans in recycling containers or take away all trash..
